Thyroid Gland Tumor

Diagnosis

Papillary carcinoma of the left lobe of the thyroid gland. Multiple nodules in the right lobe of the thyroid gland.

Patient:

Female, 60 years old, Russia

Physician:

Professor Franck Billmann, Chief Physician of the Departments of General, Visceral, and Transplant Surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital

Response from Surgeon Professor Franck Billmann:

I can fully confirm the indications for surgery. A tumor was detected in the patient’s left thyroid lobe, which, according to the results of a fine-needle aspiration biopsy, corresponds to Category V of the Bethesda classification: papillary thyroid carcinoma. In addition, there are multiple nodules in the right lobe.

In this case, a thyroidectomy with prophylactic central lymphadenectomy is recommended. This procedure involves the complete removal of the thyroid gland along with the left-sided, so-called central lymph nodes. The surgery is not urgent. Even if the diagnosis is confirmed and the tumor turns out to be malignant, papillary thyroid cancer develops very slowly.

Patient Review:

I would like to thank Konstantin Albrecht and his team for their medical consultation and support. I have never experienced a more professional, punctual and thorough approach. After submitting my medical documents, I received consultations from leading professors at renowned university hospitals in Germany, such as Charité and Essen.

Despite the Christmas and New Year holidays, the discussions proceeded in a businesslike manner and we reached a full mutual understanding. All my questions were answered and all dates were agreed. Furthermore, alternative options were proposed for undergoing surgery with a German surgeon outside Germany, which was valuable in my case due to logistical challenges, as it significantly simplified and shortened the process.

For me, this involved consultations with Germany’s leading endocrine surgeons, including Professor Frank Bilmann.

Once again, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Konstantin Albrecht and his team!
