Chest Wall Fibrosarcoma

Diagnosis

Recurrent fibrosarcoma of the anterior chest wall. Status post-thoracotomy and two courses of radiation therapy.

Patient:

Female, 47 years old, Kazakhstan

Physician:

Prof. Dr. med. Marcus Lenhardt, Head of the Sarcoma Center, Bergmannsheil University Hospital

Expert Opinion by Prof. Marcus Lenhardt:

The provided CT scans demonstrate a tumor mass on the anterior chest wall exhibiting significant contrast enhancement involving the third, fourth, and fifth ribs. In this scenario, surgical intervention requiring broad resection of the affected rib segments and adjacent soft tissues is necessary. Following tumor removal, reconstruction and stabilization of the chest wall defect will be performed using a specialized surgical mesh, and soft tissue coverage via a skin flap may be required. The anticipated inpatient hospital stay is approximately 7 to 10 days.

Preliminary Cost Estimate: €12,000

Treatment Rendered:

The patient underwent surgical resection of the right anterior chest wall tumor, including en bloc resection of the affected third, fourth, and fifth ribs and a segment of the lower lobe of the right lung. The procedure was completed without surgical complications. On the seventh postoperative day, the patient was discharged from the hospital in good clinical condition.

Actual Cost of Treatment: €11,526
