Bladder tumour

Diagnosis

Bladder formation

Patient:

Female, 54 years old, India

Physician:

Professor Thomas Otto, Head of the Urology Department at Lukaskrankenhaus

The patient’s symptoms:

Lower abdominal pain began two weeks ago. Some time before that, blood was found in her urine. Contrast-enhanced CT urography revealed a mass on the bladder wall, showing no signs of infiltration into the surrounding muscles.

Response from Professor Thomas Otto, the urological surgeon:

This is a suspected case of bladder cancer. We will perform a transurethral resection of the tumour (TURBT) and then analyse the resected tissue histologically.

This treatment is carried out on an inpatient basis. The estimated length of stay in hospital is four days.
Depending on the results of the histological examination, further treatment will be decided upon.
