Freiburg University Medical Center, employing approximately 15,000 staff members, is one of the largest university hospitals in Germany. Around 1,900 physicians and 4,400 nurses provide care to approximately 90,000 inpatients and 900,000 outpatients annually.

The hospital originated from one of the oldest universities in Germany, founded in 1457. It is renowned not only for its rich history but also for its outstanding physicians, four of whom have been awarded the Nobel Prize.

The Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg is a leading oncology center in the region and one of the largest in Germany.
It provides interdisciplinary cancer treatment using the latest medical innovations. Through participation in clinical research, patients benefit from advanced diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
The center treats all types of cancer, including:

The center holds 26 multidisciplinary tumor board meetings each week. These meetings bring together experts from oncology, surgery, radiology, pathology, radiation therapy, and other specialties as required.
During these conferences, individualized treatment plans are developed for each patient. Tumor boards are convened at initial diagnosis, before and after surgery, and in cases of disease progression or recurrence. In 2022 alone, more than 15,000 cases were reviewed.
The Center for Chronic Immunodeficiency (CCI) specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of immune system disorders across all age groups.
Interdisciplinary collaboration between infectious disease specialists and immunologists enables treatment of conditions such as:
- Genetic immune system disorders

- Recurrent fever syndromes
- Early or unclassified inflammatory diseases

Approximately 22,000 patients receive inpatient treatment annually at the Cardiology Center, supported by an interdisciplinary team.

The Emergency and Acute Care Center is the central medical unit of Freiburg University Medical Center, specializing in clinical emergency medicine, research, education, and professional training in emergency care.
