Diagnosis
Arachnoid cyst of the brain. Chronic headaches.
Patient:
Child, 10 years old, Russia
Physician:
Prof. Dr. med. Martin Scholz, Head of Neurosurgery Department, Sana Hospital Duisburg
Expert Opinion by Prof. Martin Scholz:
After carefully evaluating the patient's MRI scans, I have concluded that we are dealing with a left-sided brain arachnoid cyst.
Because the cyst is not exerting mass effect or compression on the surrounding brain tissue, surgical intervention is currently not indicated. My clinical recommendation is to adopt a conservative monitoring strategy: a follow-up MRI scan should be performed in one year, or earlier if any new neurological symptoms arise.
