Retrocerebellar Brain Cyst

Diagnosis

Retrocerebellar brain cyst. Recurrent headaches frequently accompanied by nausea.

Patient:

Child, 9 years old, Russia

Physician:

Prof. Dr. med. Martin Scholz, Head of Neurosurgery Department, Sana Hospital Duisburg

Expert Opinion by Prof. Martin Scholz:

I have carefully evaluated the provided brain MRI scans. In this case, there are no medical indications for surgical intervention. Such enlargements of the subarachnoid space within the cisterna magna region are relatively common and hold no clinical or pathological significance.

A follow-up MRI scan may be performed in one year, or earlier if new clinical symptoms develop. The child's current symptoms are unrelated to the presence of this cyst.

During the follow-up MRI examination, it will be essential to precisely measure the dimensions of both the cyst and the retrocerebellar space to allow an accurate volumetric comparison with previous imaging studies.
